Lubec, Maine (November 21, 2022) - Bar Harbor Bank & Trust has pledged $7,500 to support Lubec Memorial Library’s Community Room Expansion and Digital Upgrade project. The project will increase the available space and seating capacity for community events and provide much-needed presentation and videoconferencing technology. The Bank recently presented the first $2,500 installment of the pledge to the library and will provide an additional $2,500 per year over the next two years.
“The Lubec Memorial Library plays an important role in our community, both as a source of learning and as a place for the community to gather,” said Maureen Lord, VP Branch Relationship Manager at Bar Harbor Bank & Trust. “We are honored to support the library’s efforts to expand their capabilities and better serve the residents of Lubec, Trescott, and Whiting.”
The Lubec Memorial Library was established in 1952 and outgrew several locations before opening at its current location in 2001. The current facility has hosted hundreds of free community events and meetings, and despite being a small rural library, approximately 2,400 people attend events there annually. Because of its popularity as a community gathering space, the demand for space has outpaced the facility’s current seating capacity.
Through the Community Room Expansion and Digital Upgrade project, the Lubec Memorial Library will be able to double the seating capacity in the Community Room. The expanded space will also be flexible enough that it can be divided into two separate meeting spaces, making it possible for the library to host two simultaneous events. In addition, the space will be equipped with state-of-the-art digital presentation and video teleconferencing equipment.
"The Lubec Memorial Library is thrilled by the support from Bar Harbor Bank and Trust,” said Melissa Lee, Librarian at Lubec Memorial Library. “Their faith in the library's plans in our community is so valuable and affirming."
