Bar Harbor Bank & Trust Donates $2,000 to Cornucopia Project to Support Nutrition Education Programs for Students

Peterborough, New Hampshire (May 18, 2023) - Bar Harbor Bank & Trust has donated $2,000 to Cornucopia Project, a nonprofit organization leading hands-on nutrition education in New Hampshire. The donation will be used to support the organization’s Scholarship Fund so that high school students from low- and moderate-income households can learn about food production from the ground up while gaining valuable job skills.

“Cornucopia Project offers students a very unique and engaging opportunity to learn not only about the importance of healthy eating but the ins and outs of planting and harvesting local, sustainably-grown produce,” said Mike Justason, Branch Relationship Manager at Bar Harbor Bank & Trust. “We are pleased to support the hands-on learning opportunities that Cornucopia Project provides for students as well as the organization’s work to build healthy and vibrant communities throughout the Monadnock region.”

Beginning as a grassroots effort in 2005, Cornucopia Project was established as a nonprofit organization in 2008 with the mission to plant seeds for a lifetime of healthy eating through garden, kitchen, and farm education. Today the organization provides garden education to nine elementary schools, offers youth cooking classes to hundreds and operates an Educational Farm in Peterborough that supplies produce to families, restaurants, food pantries, community suppers, and schools. The Educational Farm is the site where students supported by the Bank’s donation will complete their internships or serve as Student Farmers.

"Cornucopia Project is thrilled to receive this generous support from Bar Harbor Bank & Trust,” said Lauren Judd, Executive Director of Cornucopia Project. “The Student Farmer program is in great need of funding and this contribution makes an important impact, creating more opportunities for students at the Educational Farm. Our nonprofit has banked with Bar Harbor Bank & Trust for more than a decade. They've helped us along each stage of our growth and their philanthropy and volunteer service has made a meaningful difference for our organization."
