Ellsworth, Maine (July 6, 2023) - Bar Harbor Bank & Trust has donated $1,000 to The Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center to help cancer patients with limited financial resources offset the cost of travel to and from treatment. The Center serves patients in Hancock and Washington Counties, many of whom must travel from 40 to more than 100 miles one way to receive cancer treatment. The Bank’s donation will be used to reimburse patients and their caregivers for gas and other forms of travel.
“The reality for many cancer patients and their families is that they need to drive significant distances to get the care they need, and those travel costs can really add up,” said Chelsea Sawyer, VP Branch Relationship Manager at Bar Harbor Bank & Trust. “We are honored to make this donation to The Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center so that someone traveling for treatment has one less worry during an already stressful time.”
The Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center in Ellsworth is one of only three freestanding cancer resource centers in Maine. The Center provides compassion, support, wellness groups, advocacy and education for patients, families, and friends in the midst of a cancer diagnosis, treatment and/or remission. In addition to their transportation aid program, some of the services they offer include support groups, exercise classes, and volunteer-prepared meals.
